Which terminal is closest to home, how to get from the terminal to the UCA area, and how to plan Friday and Sunday trips without missing the last bus.

From the north and centre (Estelí, Matagalpa, Jinotega, Ocotal, Juigalpa) buses arrive at and leave from Mercado Mayoreo. From the south (Rivas, Granada, Masaya), from Mercado Roberto Huembes. From the west (León, Chinandega), from Mercado Israel Lewites. Minibuses from León, Granada, Masaya and Carazo arrive at UCA, right in the university area.
If you study at UCA or near Metrocentro, the minibuses from León, Granada, Masaya and Carazo drop you right there. From Mayoreo or Huembes, according to our urban route data, route 110 runs via Huembes, Metrocentro and UCA, and route 119 links Huembes with Metrocentro and UCA. For other campuses, search the urban routes for the nearest neighbourhood or stop. The city fare is C$2.50 and many routes take the TUC card: ask during your first week how to pay on yours.
On Friday and Sunday afternoons the terminals fill with students and workers heading to and from their home towns. Arrive an hour early, especially for express buses. Check the last departure: according to our timetables, the last express from Managua to Estelí leaves at 6:00 PM and the last one from Estelí’s COTRAN Sur to Managua at 5:30 PM.
A weekend at home costs, round trip: from Estelí about C$240–280 by express, from Matagalpa C$220–260, from León C$140–160 by minibus and from Granada C$90–100. Local buses are cheaper but take up to an hour longer. Some buses charge extra for big bags.
Approximate cost
Weekend at home: C$90–280 round trip depending on the department. City bus in Managua: C$2.50.
Send it to whoever is travelling with you.

Augusto C. Sandino airport sits on the Carretera Norte, 15–25 minutes by taxi from the bus terminals. There are no tourist buses from the airport itself: the trick is a short taxi to the right terminal and the bus from there.

Ometepe is reached by ferry or small boat from the port of San Jorge, 15 minutes from Rivas. From Managua the whole trip takes about 3 hours and costs under C$200 (US$5).

San Juan del Sur is 2 h 30 from Managua. There are direct express buses from Huembes mid-morning and in the afternoon; at any other time, go to Rivas and change buses.
