Boats down the Río San Juan to El Castillo and across to the Solentiname islands. Tickets are sold at the dock's ticket office; buy the day before for the first boat.
Terminal de San Carlos
Buses to Managua and Juigalpa. Boats to El Castillo, Solentiname and the Costa Rica border leave from the river dock.
Direct buses between major cities with few stops. Faster and slightly pricier.
The famous “chicken buses”: they stop in every town along the way. Cheapest and slowest.
Water connections: the ferry to Ometepe island and the speedboats between El Rama and Bluefields.
